Seat: Conroe
Montgomery County is the 28th fastest growing county in
America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and
July 2006 for all counties that began the new century with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
Montgomery County which was founded in 1837, had already grown
in population to 293,768 by the year 2000. But in the six
years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the
county increased the number of inhabitants by 35.6 percent
bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to
398,290.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made
Montgomery County the fifth fastest growing county in the Lone
Star State of Texas and the 28th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 1,044 square mile jurisdiction of Montgomery
County was $114,800.
