Loudoun County enjoyed remarkable growth during the first few
years of the twenty first century. According to the U.S.
Census Bureau estimates Loudoun County is the fourth fastest
growing county in America based on percent of growth between
January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the
century with more than ten thousand residents.
In 2005, Loudoun County emerged as the wealthiest jurisdiction
in the nation, with its households having a median income of
more than $98,000 and is part of the Washington DC
Metropolitan Area.
Loudoun County which was established in 1757, had already
grown in population to 169599 by the year 2000. But in the six
years that marked the beginning of the 21 Century, the county
increased the number of inhabitants by 58.5 percent bringing
the estimated total population in July 2006 to 268817.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Loudoun
County the number 1 fastest growing county in the Old Dominion
State of Virginia and the fourth fastest in the nation.
Although no figures are available to determine how the growth
may have affected the price of homes in the area, in the year
2000 the median cost for a home within the 520 square mile
jurisdiction was 200500.
