King George County is the 57th fastest growing county in
America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and
July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more
than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
King George County which was founded in 1721, grew in
population to 16,803 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of inhabitants by 29.6 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 21,780.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made King
George County the fifth fastest growing county in the Old
Dominion State of Virginia and the 57th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 180 square mile jurisdiction of King George
County was $123,200. |
