Dawson County is the 64th fastest growing county in America
based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten
thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Dawson County which was founded in 1857, grew in
population to 15,999 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of residents by 29 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 20,643.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Dawson
County the number 14 fastest growing county in the Peach State
of Georgia and the 64th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 211 square mile jurisdiction of Dawson
County was $142,500. |
