Sumter County is the 66th fastest growing county in the US
based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for
all counties that began the century with more than ten
thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Sumter County which was founded in 1853, grew in population to
53,345 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 28.9 percent bringing the estimated total

The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Sumter
County the ninth fastest growing county in the Sunshine State
of Florida and the 66th fastest in the nation.
The median value for a home within the 546 square mile
jurisdiction of Sumter County was $100,400 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
will give some indication.
