Founded in 1883, Loup County is one of the least populated
counties in America. As of 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau
estimates that there are 656 individuals living within the
county making Loup County the 9th most sparsely populated
county in the United States.
The
Loup and Mary Williams Homestead is located in Loup
County. The complex includes an 1877 log house, a 1915 frame
house, and five additional outbuildings which date from ca.
1900-49. It is significant as an intact farm showing
evolutionary changes while maintaining a high degree of
integrity.
Taylor is the only town within the 570 square miles that make
up Loup County. In 2000 the U.S. Census Bureau reported the
total county population as 712 and by 2005 the estimate was
674. By 2006 the estimated population was 656.
