Wally Scott born
in Van Horn Texas in 1924. He was an American
aviator and author, a holder of several
international sailplane records, and a
multi-time recipient of the Lewin B. Barringer
trophy awarded for the longest, free-distance,
sailplane flight of each year made in the United
States.
Margaret Formby
was born to Southwest Texas Ranchers in Van Horn
in Culberson County east of El Paso. She
founded the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of
Fame in the basement of the public library in
Hereford in Deaf Smith County before she
relocated the collection to Fort Worth.
Joe Ben Wheat was
an archaeologist, curator, teacher, and author
known for his expertise on blanket weavings and
textiles of the Navajo, Mogollon, Anasazi and
Great Plains Paleo-Indian tribes. He was raised
in Van Horn, Culberson County Texas.
