Planting-General Dig hole 2-3X wide and 1X deep as the root ball. Likes well drained soil. Likes soil pH 5.0-7.0, acid to neutral. Soil types: sand, loam, clay, and silt. Mulch to prevent soil from drying out or getting too hot. Mulch about 2 to 3 inches deep at all times.
Planting-Spacing Plant 3-6Ft. apart center to center, for a tight hedge. Plant 8Ft.+ apart center to center for a more open look, and to accommodate its arching loose growth habit.
Watering

Average. Weekly, or more often during high heat waves until established. Once established, deep soaking during dry spells to prevent wilting. Can add Root Stimulation which helps early root development and strengths roots, as well as, reduces plant shock.

Fertilizing Feed in early Spring with slow release type. Keep roots cool with thick layer of mulch to retain moisture during heat of Summer and colder months of Winter.
Pruning Prune in late Winter, or early Spring before new growth begins, and berries grow out on new wood. Thin out interior branches to improve air flow, and light penetration.  Always use clean shears to avoid possibly spreading diseases.
Deer Deer do favor their taste. Consider planting the American Boxwood near them to deter deer since deer do not like their strong, unpleasant smell. If in a high deer area, spray every 3 to 6 months with deer repellent.
Flowers Pink to blue small flowers in Spring turn into clusters of pearl shaped bright purple berries. Leaves turn yellow in the Fall and berries stay through Winter, or until the birds eat them.
