Fifth Sunday of Lent

“I am the resurrection and the life”

Thanks to Easter and Pentecost we know this claim, made my Jesus Christ, is true. It changes the reality of our time on earth.

At death, life is changed, not ended. When, trusting Jesus, we accept that fact our life becomes a journey to eternity and death ceases to generate fear. As I often make clear, I look forward to being dead and thus fully alive.

Jesus is THE LIFE. He is the horizon to which I travel as I strive to acquire the virtues he lived and taught while with us on earth.

Jesus gives me not only my identity as a member of God’s family. He gives my life purpose. I am here to learn to live to love by serving my communities; today, now, you.

My gratitude is expressed at the start of every Mass when I invite the congregation to open its TAPS.

I celebrate Mass to thank God for the gifts we have received. I ask God for what we need. I praise God for the beauty of creation and I say sorry for my failings and faults.

These days I have been thanking him for John Studzinski, whom I have known since 1985. He has done many wonderful things for many, many people. His magnificent generosity of not only money but time and advice has helped God realise The Kingdom of God wherever John can reach.

May John be with you for many more years – way beyond the end of my life – which is currently 87 years old  and its length is one of the reasons I keep my homilies short. You might say “Thank God.”
