still working to help God make this World a better place
“unless you repent you will all perish”
As the Good Thief on Calvary, having recognised Jesus's innocence and his own just punishment, said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." found out, it is never too late to repent. He heard, “Today you will be with me in paradise.”
However, it is never too soon to repent. Life is short so it’s a pity to squander time on things that dis-enhance our life.
The Greek word "metanoia," translated as "repentance" or "change of mind," had a military connotation in biblical times, referring to a soldier turning around and marching in the opposite direction. So from being selfish, become generous; from being materialistic, give priority to the spiritual.
John the Baptist proclaimed, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,”he said.“ The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
What is ‘The Kingdom of God’? Well, kingdom is a state. God is love so – for me – the kingdom of God is the state of divine love.
Our vocation is to realise that. To be aware that God is Emmanuel - with us – and demonstrate it through our faith, hope and love: serving/helping those within our communities.
Every Mass reminds me of the incarnation – and my duty to bring God’s presence into the world. I try to make my homilies do just that. You decide if I succeed.
