still working to help God make this World a better place

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

“we have only done what was our duty.”

Thanks to our faith, we realise – and celebrate the fact - that all we have is a gift from God and thus, as I see it, it is incumbent upon us to use those gifts  - however magnificent or plain-ordinary - in helping God improve the world.

Look at your PIES: the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual dimensions of your life.

Are they all doing their best?

I may be more like Salieri than Mozart – remember the Film ‘Amadeus’? - but my vocation is to do the best I can with what I’ve got - and thus become the best version of myself. Not anyone else.

The physical includes time. We need to rest and be refreshed, but I ask myself,  “Am I wasting time – rather than using it creatively for my self, others, nature, and God?”

Ask yourself, How do I use my intellect, my  mind?

Who benefits from my emotional life? Are there people that I could thank and make them feel better?

My spirituality – my relationships - with my self, others, nature and God.

How are they? Worth investing a bit of time to keep tabs on yourself.

I try to keep tabs on all my PIES, not to feel guilty but to resonate with my earliest English poem I came across in 1947.

Good better best

I’ll never let them rest

Until my good is better

And my better best.

If you strive to keep on doing your best, life becomes more entertaining – and keeps you young at heart.
