What I love most about this book is the photo on the back cover-

of Jim Marshall reflected in the mirror behind his camera taking a photo of

Jerry Garcia holding his guitar. It's the only picture of Jim Marshall in this book.

This book is full of awesome, rare pictures I never seen before, that truly capture

the spirit of the environment in the band's homeland San Francisco.

Jim keeps the focus of this book centered on the band members, the photos

curated by Amelia Davis and David Gans.

The accompanying unique stories, by many contributors, tell a crucial narrative of

 The Grateful Dead, the culture, & formative development (1966 - 1977)

 of sight in the midst of sound.

 I crossed paths with Baron Wolman in San Francisco. What a cool person and gentle spirit, he is a storyteller with pictures. He was Rolling Stone magazine´s first Photo Journalist, the best rock photographer of his generation.
