America's Ten Fastest Growing Counties

According to the Census Bureau, the populations of these counties are growing faster than any other.

Number 4

Back - Riverside

Next - Tarrant

Clark County, Nevada
Population: 1,777,539

Increase (July 2005 - July 2006): 68,175

In the 1950 census, the total number of Nevada residents just topped 160,000; it was the smallest state in the union.

Now the population of Clark County alone increases by more than that every three years.

The reason: Gaming. The county's main city, Las Vegas, is the heart of the nation's increasingly rabid gambling culture.

Crime Rate

In 2006 Frances Deane, the county recorder for Clark County was charged with nineteen felonies.

The state of Nevada had the highest crime rate among the 50 states across the country, according to Morgan Quitno Press, an independent researcher in Lawrence, Kansas, which publishes the rankings annually.
