Pike County is the 91st fastest growing county in the US based
on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all
counties that began the century with more than ten thousand
residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Pike County which was established in 1814, grew in population
to 46,302 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 25.7 percent bringing the estimated total
population in July 2006 to 58,195.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Pike
County the fastest growing county in the Keystone State of
Pennsylvania and the 91st fastest in the nation.
The median value for homes within the 547 square mile
jurisdiction of Pike County was $118,300 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available. |
