March 2023 (Part 06) Spring Break in Cancun, Mexico: Day 5: Yaxmuul Cenote After Tulum, we headed to the Yaxmuul Cenote (think that is the right name), which is totally enclosed and features two cenotes with low ceilings which are connected by a narrow passageway.
Here are some images clipped from the GoPro video. Some turned out surprisingly well, some not so much. It was really dark, so unless Christina was shining her flashlight at what the camera was looking at, the image wasn't too good, then if either the camera or subject (Andy) was moving, the image was blurry. We started in one cenote, with Christina stopping to explain several things we were looking at. There were a number of spots where we could all stand. It really helped and when she illuminated the low ceiling, it provided enough light reflecting back to actually get some decent images.
Here were are making our way through one of the passages to the second cenote.
In the first image below is a tree root that has made its way down to the water. I think this is from the Ceiba tree; the root ball stopping just at the water level, providing a good indication if the water is high or low. It then provides the water to nearby trees as their root systems are intertwined, leading to the clear name of "tree of life."
Here is Nancy and Alexa coming out of the narrow and shallow passage from the second cenote back into the first.
Here is Andy pointing at one of the fossils embedded in the ceiling.
