May 2025 (Part 17) France Trip: Day 7: Les Andelys and Honfluer After the abbeys, we headed back to the cruise ship for lunch, stopping to take some pictures on our walk back (mostly of bees and flowers)
After lunch, we headed toward the coastal port town of Honfleur which is situated at the seine estuary across from the larger commercial port of La Havre. Our bus let us off near a memorial to the Allied Troops who died in the liberation of Normandy and Honfleur, which was liberated on August 24, 1944..
Some beautiful cobblestone streets and old timber framed houses. Not a straight wall anywhere.
Our route took us through some winding streets until we popped out by the harbor on a corner with a small church.
The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest wooden church in France.
We stopped at a couple chocolate stores and a bakery on our way back down to the harbor from the church.
We took a longer route around the harbor, taking time to enjoy the old retaurants.
This plaque marked the departure of Samuel Champlain, who departed from Honfleur to explore Acadia and Canada in 1603 to 1607, and departed again from Honfleur in 1608 to found the city of Quebec,
