July 2023 (Part 02) Delaware Beach We went to the beach for the first weekend in July, returning home on the Third as Cathy was coming up and Andy was flying home. We used the opportunity to take Lexi out the Jet Ski, showing her how to unload it from the trailer and ensuring she knew how to safely ride. Steve took her around the bay, switching so she could drive, while Nancy went out on the kayak for a loop around Cedar Island. Nancy took a couple pictures as they passed by her on the way out.
We all met back at the kayak beach, where Lexi took off for a bit on her own, before coming back to allow Steve and Nancy to go out. She met us back at the ramp to see how to get it loaded and cleaned.
Here are some images of Cedar Island from Nancy's paddle
The next day, while Lexi studied, we went on a long paddle, going up and around the Assawomen Nature Preserve toward Bethany.
Apparently, we spooked this egret into flight.
We ran across another couple out in their kayaks who pointed out something we had missed, a bald eagle in a far tree. This was the first eagle we'd seen in the area over two years.
Tried to get a picture of the fledgling in this osprey nest.
As Nancy approached, you heard one of the adults screech while the fledgling
ducked down quickly. It popped up again, only to be screeched at and
disappear. While we didn't see a fledgling in this nest, we loved the image of the one bird on the sign in front of the nest. At least until Steve scared it away.
Tank sure enjoyed a swim that evening. He was so tired when we finally got him out, that he just sat in the grass panting and protecting his stick.
Here he is on the trip home. Wonder if he knows that Andy is coming back in the afternoon?
With Andy back, we headed to the beach again for the weekend after the fourth. The kids went early and sent this image of Tank in their car.
Steve and Andy took Tank to the beach to swim. There is a lot of play left in the dog, even if there isn't a lot of energy right now.
Steve took Andy out for his check-ride on the Ket Ski. Then he drove Nancy down and around Big Assawoman Bay (a lot faster than she was necessarily comfortable going). We also went to Fenwick Ice that night. Amazed at how crowded it was.
