June 2025 (Part 02) New Market and Harrisonburg, VA for Kenny's Birthday Ken turned 65 years-old this year. Just after we got back from France, we met him, Sandra, and Cathy in New Market, VA. Ken wanted to stay in a hobbit-style home which was set up as an Air B&B in Broadway, VA. We rented another place nearby.
That evening we wound up getting pizza at a place with hatchet throwing.
Our place and the small town of Broadway was fascinating.
We went to the Virginia Museum of the Civil War in the morning. A small, but interesting museum. Found a display on James Hanger, a Confederate soldier who lost his leg and later invented a more realistic prosthesis, and went on to found the Hanger Clinics, now the leading manufacturer of prosthetic limbs in the U.S.
We also took a short hike through New Market Battlefield and up to an overlook above the Shenandoah River.
The next day we stopped at the White Oak Lavender Farm.
Some fun ducks and ducklings.
We enjoyed some barbeque from a food truck along with some hard cider.
