June 2026 (Part 04) Delaware Beach Fun Steve and Nancy headed to the beach (again) for the weekend, spending most of the first day watching soccer then power washing the deck. Enjoyed a nice, long paddle around the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge to Strawberry Landing on Saturday. It was just under 4 miles there, a four mile hike, and a bit over three miles to return. The challenge on the return was the west wind which made crossing Dirickson Creek a real challenge. We wandered into the estuaries on the east of the Refuge to check out the one eagle aerie there. Didn't see the eagle, but on the way out Steve decided to check out a weird shape in a tree on the other side of the small pond, and was glad to discover it was one of the eagles. It flew off pretty quickly, but we'll take it.
We saw several egrets around the bay.
... and a couple heron
Mulberry Pond was pretty dry with the tide out. But there were still a couple swans hanging out.
A nice view back across Dirickson Creek to our townhouse in Bayville Shores.
Saw several osprey in their nests on the way back.
Enjoying some well deserved rest on the deck, had to try for a picture of this egret hanging out in a tree.
