February 2026 (Part 01) Skiing in Breckenridge Steve had a business trip to Denver in late January and made plans to stay in town to go skiing for a weekend with Andy after his meetings on the Jan 31-Feb 1. Naturally, a wicked ice storm hit the east coast, so the Government postponed the meetings to the next week, which meant the trip was now before his meetings. Then, the Government shut-down for three days, and the trip became just a fun weekend escape. The snow forecast, showing no snow for weeks and only a 28-inch base didn't bode well, but we really had a nice time. Both Saturday and Sunday were simply beautiful weather, mostly sunny providing incredible views. The snow limited what was open, but they had all but the lifts to the cliffs on the ridge open. The runs were mostly open and covered, with only areas at the edge of rises were bare as the wind had cleared the snow, especially above treeline. We managed to take some pictures on Saturday at the top of Peak 6 despite a pretty strong wind.
We wound up eating at the Breckenridge Brewery both nights. After dinner of Saturday, we wandered through town a bit to find a belt for Andy and to enjoy the snow/ice carvings from a competition that week.
The sky was almost cloudless on Sunday.
Hard not to squint with the bright sun.
Here are some images captured from GoPro video taken on Sunday. The first set begins at the top of Peak 7 on the way to Peak 6, while the others were taken on Peak 6.
