June 2026 (Part 01) Delaware Beach We headed to the beach in early June, enjoying a ridiculously look kayak paddle up Dirickson Creek. I think we went eight miles over almost four hours.
Best guess is this was an osprey.
One of the reasons we came out was to investigate a water leak in the attic. Andy had noticed a water spot in the ceilings in the upstairs guest bedroom and above the kitchen, along with some wet carpet in the guest bedroom. It had been raining for several days before and during Memorial Day. After investigating, he reported that the drain pan under the HVAC system in the attic was dry, so we were pretty sure it was a roof leak and contacted our HOA. They had someone come out, but we hadn't heard back about what they found. We decided we'd better come out to check on the reclamation work, discovering the company we called had removed the drywall ceiling in the guest bedroom and a couple foot section above the kitchen. We also laughed at this sign Andy left on the wall. Guess they found a fun way to enjoy Memorial Day despite the weather.
Unfortunately, we noticed wet carpet again when we got back from our paddle, as it had been sunny for the last week, it was clear this wasn't a roof leak. Steve investigated some more and found that the company who came out had dug around in the insulation and had clearly uncovered a spot with a leak under a drain pipe for the HVAC dehumidifier. After a trip to Lowe's less than five minutes before it closed, Steve was able to patch the pipe and found that it had a crack. It looked like there was a low spot which had allowed water to collect and then freeze over the winter. There was still some unexplained water near the HVAC, and the service tech found another crack in the dehumidifier overflow pipe. Now to wait on USAA and the reclamation company to agree, so we can get stuff put back together.
