May 2024 (Part 01) Spring Trip to Chicago With Lexi done for the semester, we slipped in a quick trip to Chicago (and Missouri) to see Andy, Grandma, and Grandpa. We figured we wouldn't get a chance if we delayed too long, plus, we really wanted to see Andy. We got there late morning and Grandma picked us up from the airport. We headed straight to the Chicago Art Institute to drop off Nancy and Alexa, as Alexa needed to be on a virtual call by mid-afternoon with Professor Klein who she was TAing for. Apparently her priority was Marc Chagall’s America Windows and the monumental Hartwell Memorial Window. The later window with more 48 panes was created More than 100 years ago by Agnes F. Northrop who designed the window for Tiffany Studios as a commission from Mary Hartwell in honor of her husband, Frederick Hartwell, for the Central Baptist Church of Providence, Rhode Island (now Community Church of Providence). It remained housed in the sanctuary of the church until 2018, when the congregation decided to relocate the window to the Art Institute of Chicago, where it could be conserved to ensure its long-term stability and remain on public view.
While Lexi was on her Zoom call, and while waiting for the boys (and Grandma) to get back, Nancy wandered around the lakeshore.
Andy was dismayed when he heard we weren't planning to rent a car, as it ruined his plan to have us take him on a Costco run. But as we had Grandma's car, we took Andy to Costco. He was pretty good about not taking advantage of dad, getting mostly bulky items it was hard for him to carry on his normal runs to the store. He was pretty happy with some premade food though.
On Sunday, we headed off to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs defeat the rival Brewers 5-0, taking the series 2-1 and moving into a first place tie with the Brewers (with the Cardinals at the bottom of the division). Glad to have Andy's roommate, Jared, join us.
Go Cubs Go!
That was fun.
We went for a walk along the lakeshore on Monday morning, then had breakfast at Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe, which Andy really wanted to take us to (well to have us take him and Jared). We also wandered to the nearby Lego Store and the Northwestern bookstore as Andy needed some swag (as did his proud parents).
That afternoon, we took a boat from Freedom Boat Club out on the Chicago River. Andy's roommate Jared joined us.
Nancy took some screen prints to record how far up the north branch and down the south branch we went.
Managed to get abnother Chicago hotdog and had some fun at the airport.
