March 2024 (Part 03) Walt Disney World Vacation Day 4-5: Animal Kingdom Tuesday was planned as a down day. Both girls had some homework and hatched a plan to head to the Animal Kingdom Lodge in the afternoon before our dinner reservation there. They found a balcony overlooking the small savannah and animals which had enough electrical outlets to allow them to do their homework for a while. Not sure they got a lot of homework done with these distractions nearby.
The girls were excited to wear their new Mickey ears. It was pretty funny listening to them in the morning. They each thought the other wouldn't want them, only to realize they were actually both interested. A lot of online searching later they had settled on ones from Norway and Germany, which were only for sale in stores in those areas of EPCOT. So, guess it was a good thing we headed back there.
Here is the view from their homework spot.
Here is our view from dinner.
The next day we headed to Animal Kingdom where we had a breakfast reservation at the Tusker House restaurant.
We also managed to get some PhotoPass pictures taken at Discovery Island in front of the Tree of Life.
We managed to walk onto Expedition Everest before breakfast.
At Tusker House, the first character to come by was Donald Duck, which Steve missed waiting to get an omelet.
Next up was Goofy, which Nancy missed.
Mickey Mouse came by next and we were finally all at the table.
Last to come by was Daisy Duck, who hugged both girls when she arrived.
Donald did come by later and Steve got a picture with him.
After breakfast we headed around the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.
Next it was time for the Kilimanjaro Safari with a Lightning Lane. It was still pretty early in the morning, so most of the animals were up and active.
Easy to miss the hippos and an alligator hiding in some of the pools.
The African dogs were lying low, although they could hide a lot better than these cows.
The cheetahs were hiding too.
Not only was the male lion silhouetted on the rocks, but he was also roaring. Pretty cool.
Loved the touch of the African pygmy goats in a camp.
Time for the Festival of the Lion King. Just love this show. First up below are the tumble monkeys.
After the show, our next stop was Rafiki's Planet Watch, which we hadn't been to visit in our last several trips.
We next started to circle clockwise headed for Asia, stopping at a picture spot overlooking the river and Tree of Life with a PhotoPass photographer.
We also captured several images of our own.
The Tree of Life is simply stunning.
In Asia, we walked the Maharaja Jungle Trek.
So this happened right in front of us. A mother duck herded her ducklings across the crowded path, stopping traffic, as they then headed through a restaurant patio.
Next it was time for the Finding Nemo show.
The new Pandora World from Avatar is amazing. There is a popular PhotoPass spot as you enter looking across the area.
While waiting in line, we were compelled to watch a YouTube show Nancy found describing the engineering behind the floating rocks.
We stopped for a PhotoPass spot while leaving the park.
As the Animal Kingdom closed early, we decided to head to EPCOT to wander around the World Showcase.
