June 2024 (Part 07) Delaware Beach Time Andy had a two-week break between grad school sessions which represented the mid-point of their in-person part of the program and when his group would be switching from orthotics to prosthetics. He came home for the break, stating he really just wanted to hang-out and relax, while also requesting apple pie, apple-blackberry pie, and flank steak. He headed into Arlington for his first night, staying with some friends who now lived there together. He also got to see Nicole. We then headed out to the beach on Wed evening after work for an extended stay through next Tuesday, as Andy was flying back to Chicago on Wed, July 3rd to spend the 4th there. Andy wanted to get out a bit earlier, so left separately with Tank. We enjoyed a nice kayak paddle in the morning across to the estuary, while Andy went out on a paddleboard.
Nancy had to get on a call for work, which allowed Andy to switch to her kayak for a paddle out to Cedar Isle with Steve.
We spent that afternoon at the beach, then took Tank swimming at sunset.
Clear that Andy enjoyed his time with Tank. We also had fun playing shuffleboard (once we found the equipment in the gym).
Think we wore him out.
Took advantage of the longer time at the beach.
Harris joined us on Saturday, staying until we all went back on Tuesday. We enjoyed time on the jet ski, several more paddles in the kayak, and more trips to the beach. We played shuffleboard and introduced Andy and Harris to backgammon, which led to a lot of laughter and exasperation from Harris when Andy kept rolling doubles. The boys claimed to see a shark in the bay just twenty yards from the small beach at the point by our complex. Glad we believed them, as we saw it a couple weeks later ourselves.
So nice to see Andy. When we got home, he and Steve went to Burke Lake (him for a run, Steve for a walk) and then played disc gold with Harris. Lots more laughter. Harris then surprised Andy by visiting him in Chicago the next day for the Fourth of July. His brother Sam was also there, as he was recreating the Camper Dudez trip and his group was stopping in Chicago for the holiday on their way home. Nancy had fun finally building her mother's day present now that both kids were there to help (although they mostly let her build it herself). Also really enjoyed the wildflowers around the community ponds.
Took some pictures of a bee just off our porch to share with Lexi.
We also had time for a nice paddle around Assawoman Wildlife Preserve, combined with a hike.
Tank decided Nancy needed some close supervision while she was trying to get something done on her laptop.
We also anticipated someone using our unit, so took some pictures of what they would be able to use.
