Kent Island and the Ocean City Airshow

We headed to the beach in early June, stopping to take a boat ride at Kent Island.  We went out around the northern end of the island to see the Bay Bridge in the distance.  We decided it was a bit too rough to go across, so turned around and went up the Charles River instead, stopping at Conquest Beach to wander around and have a snack before heading back.  Didn't realize until checking on the map, that this was just around the bend from the Russian Embassy's Summer Retreat.  Will need to look for

Nancy's co-worker, Jim Nugent, joined us for the weekend, coming out to go to the Ocean City Airshow.  After the West Point Parachute Team delivered a flag to start the show, a couple performers entertained while Steve was still getting back after parking the car.  The French Patrouille de France demonstration team was up as he arrived.

Next up was a B-25J Mitchell medium bomber named Ponchito.  It was actually from the nearby Delaware Aviation Museum in Georgetown.  It was all shiny aluminum, and painted with the markings of the 41st Bombardment Group from the Pacific Air Forces, it was restored to represent an actual Pacific Theater aircraft named after the Mexican rooster Panchito in the 1940s Disney film The Three Caballeros.

The next aircraft was an F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team.

As expected, the US Air Force Thunderbirds were awesome.

After the airshow, we went kayaking across to the nearby estuary in the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge.  Delighted to spot an eagle.

There was an osprey hanging out eating something on the beach, as we took a walk before sunset.
