August 2026 (Part 01) Chicago Cubs 12 - Washington Nationals 6 and DC United 0 - New England Revolution 3 We went to see the Chicago Cubs play when they were in town to visit the Nats. They won the first game of the series 8-6 the night before. They won the game we saw 12-6, in a game that featured six home runs (4 from the Cubs, 2 from the Nats) including 3 HRs bringing 9 RBIs from Cubs 3rd baseman Alex Bregman who was in the lineup as the DH and one from shortstop Dansby Swawnson, along with the MLB debut of the Nats pitcher who went four innings.
The National's Racing Presidents were wandering the stands early.
The game featured the Coast Guard, who brought their silent drill team out before the game. Who knew they even had one? They had one Coastie announce play ball to start the game, with a note on the scoreboard that he was from Illinois. He proceeded to yell "play ball, go Cubies!!" over the PA. Clearly didn't vet him well.
The Nats played loud music immediately after the last out as the Cubs won, barely drowning out the gathering of Cubs fans behind the visitor's bench singing Go Cubs, Go. By the end of the game, there were clearly more Cubs fans than Nats fans. Almost feel sorry for the Nats, as there are so many people in DC from other areas of the country, that many games must feel like away games.
We also went to see a DC United soccer game to celebrate Steve's 59th birthday they day before. The home team didn't play very well, while New England's mid-field looked very strong and the won with a hat trick by Alhassan Yusuf, the team's Nigerian striker
