August 2023 (Part 02) Summer Entertainment We enjoyed three shows at Wolf Trap this summer. First up was Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, who we had missed in Delaware last summer. We had tickets, but that was the weekend we got rear-ended, so wound up missing the show. He put on a wonderful concert with the National Symphony Orchestra. A friend had arranged many of his songs for the orchestra several years ago, and he took advantage of this to perform several concerts a year ever since with symphonies.
We also saw Tori Amos. It was a good show, but neither of us enjoyed it as much. We realized we were only really familiar with a couple of her songs and she had rearranged them, along with most of her set, in a more mellow, folk arrangement. Steve had a TDY to Florida in mid-August, to visit L3-Harris in Palm Bay. He stayed the night in Orlando, as they were flying out early the next morning. With nothing else to do, he headed to Disney Springs to walk around and wound up getting dinner at the bar at Raglan Road. Great shepherds pie accompanied by a great duet and Celtic dancers. Really like this place.
Steve also went to a train show in Chantilly that weekend, mostly to get an idea on how to sell some of his dad's trains he still had. Really enjoyed a couple of the layouts.
