October 2023 (Part 03) Delaware Beach Steve and Andy went to Burke Lake to play disc golf and walk part of the way around the lake. A really nice day. Had to take a picture of Tank's favorite swimming spot. The water was really high.
They also headed out to the beach in mid-October. We got there just before sunset, which allows us to confirm a community post from sometime in September that the tree with the osprey nest had come down (again). Uggh. We got dinner at grab-and-go taco and ate of the beach just after dark. We went for a relatively short paddle on Saturday morning as it was really windy with whitecaps in the river. We were surprised at the number of shorebirds we saw, with several herons and even two eagles. They flew off and we soon saw up to seven circling, but they were far enough away and could have been vultures or something else.
We then spent the afternoon watching college football with both Penn State and Illinois losing, to Ohio State (20-12) and Wisconsin (25-21 as Wisconsin came back from 21-7 at the end of the 3rrd quarter) respectively. Tank got to go swimming between the games making for a very, very happy dog. He was swimming really well compared to a month ago.
He actually took himself out of the water, bringing his stick to lie down under the tree along the water.
He put the stick down after a bit, allowing Steve to grab it. Tank then ran as fast as he could chasing the stick off the sand and up the grass to the parking lot, trying to grab it whenever it got within a foot or so. This was the easiest we've ever gotten him off the beach.
Got this picture from Dog Tales. Tank has apparently started holding is own leash.
